CBC has been running its Breakaway India Immersion since 2010. Over this time three trips have run with outstanding successes! On each tour a group of teachers travels with approximately 12 students. Participants farewell families and friends at the conclusion of exams in late November and embark on a life changing journey. Over the course of an amazing three weeks the groups travel to New Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Puri and Kolkata. The majority of the time is spent with our partner school in Puri, who are the recipients of a significant proportion of our Walkathon funds. Our students are also blessed to spend time with partners at schools and NGOs in both Kolkata and Delhi. During their visits they experience singing, dancing, swimming, mathematics and reading, cricket, games, meals and lots of fun and laughter. At times they are challenged, exhilarated, tired, happy, sad, stressed, and thrilled. India truly expands the heart and mind.
It is an absolute joy for our teachers to travel to India and share this extraordinary encounter with our remarkable young CBC men. It is fantastic that every CBC boy contributes so much to the communities visited by participating in our annual Walkathon. Finally, it is truly amazing and life changing for our young men to visit those communities and spend time sharing in the richness and beauty of their lives.
This is still a relatively young program for students and staff at CBC. In time we hope to run the trip every year and share the magic of India with a group from each graduating Year 12 class. For now, the immersions are dependent upon level of interest and are running biennially- 2013, 2015 and 2017.
Students in Years 11 and 12 are all welcome - the 2017 trip is currently being finalised but is open to more students if any are interested.
